In view of the health emergency we are experiencing due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we would like to communicate that we are working towards the organization of Queer Lisboa 24 (18-26 September at Cinema São Jorge) and Queer Porto 6 (13-17 October at Teatro Rivoli and Reitoria da Universidade do Porto).
We are experiencing a particularly challenging production period. The distance between our team and the financial cuts of some of our institutional and private sponsors will inevitably reflect on the final design of the festivals. However, our commitment remains to provide the best experience for our audience, to celebrate our community and to celebrate queer cinema. Queer Lisboa and Queer Porto are places of gathering, debate and celebration, so we want to avoid at all costs online versions of the Festivals. They only make sense with the presence of us all.
We will be attentive to the safety directives of DGS - Direção Geral de Saúde (National Health Organization), always in dialogue with the venues that welcome us, in order to enjoy a communal experience, even with the important restrictions imposed by the current situation.
A final note of acknowledgment to the Ministry of Culture / ICA – Portuguese Audiovisual and Film Institute, Lisbon City Hall and EGEAC, Porto City Hall and Ágora, for the guarantee of financing our events, whatever the real development of their actual achievements could be.
Many of us have experienced - in the past and present - the presence of a virus that decimated a significant part of our communities, and which caused a disruption in our bodies and desires. Not without losses and anguish, we will for sure, and all together, defeat this one as well.
