Queer Lisboa with a monthly program at Cinema Nimas

Queer Lisboa has just established a partnership with Il Sorpasso Association, responsible for the revitalization of Cinema Nimas. Once a month, the Festival will program a special film screening at this legendary Lisbon art house Cinema, located at Av. 5 de Outubro, contributing to this exiting and creative concept of shared quality programming, of which other festival organizations such as Apordoc and MOTELx are part of.

Kicking off this month, on Thursday, the 23rd, at 9.30pm, Queer Lisboa, in association with CheckpointLX will screen the feature Efeitos Secundários (2009), directed by Paulo Rebelo. With assumed inspiration in Douglas Sirk’s All That Heaven Allows (1955), and Fassbinder’s Fear Eats the Soul (1974), the story is about love, hope and the prejudice around the HIV/AIDS virus. The film is Paulo Rebelo’s feature debut, João Pedro Rodrigues’ collaborator in Odete and Fantasma, and has Maria João Luís, Rita Martins and Nuno Lopes in the leading roles.

Following the screening, a discussion will take place with filmmaker Paulo Rebelo, Maria José Campos (CheckpointLX), Margarida Moz (Anthropology researcher) and the film cast members. Tickets cost 4€.
