BoCA – Biennial of Contemporary Arts is a new contemporary arts biennial that will celebrate its first edition this year from March 17th to April 30th, in Lisbon and Porto, expanding their activities to other portuguese cities during the rest of 2017. BoCA Biennial proposes a partnership between national and international artistic institutions (museums, galleries, theaters), integrating actions into the public space as well as ellaborating a program which will focus on the sinergy between institutions, artistic fields and its audiences.
Coordinated by Mónica Guerreiro, the "Queer Yourself" workshop makes part of the Educational Program of BoCA and will happen in Lisbon during March 24th and 25th (at c.e.m.), and in Porto during March 31st and April 1st (at Maus Hábitos). The workshop will encourage its participants to work on texts, images, films and spectacles, within a theoretical-practical context.
Among the guests, performers and choreographers such as Lander Patrick and Jonas Lopes (in Lisbon), and Carlota Lagido and Joclécio Azevedo (in Porto). In their works, they all explore instability areas which challenge monolithical aesthetics and experiences.
The workshop will also count with the participation of Francesca Rayner (professor and queer theory researcher) in Porto, and with our Festivals Artistic Director, João Ferreira, in Lisbon.
