Special Screening of Queer Porto 5 awarded films
In partnership with the Rectory of the University of Porto, Queer Porto presents a unique screening program with the award-winning films of its 5th edition, which took place from October 16th to 20th. The screening will take place on Friday, November 29, at 9:30 pm, at Casa Comum - Rectory of the University of Porto.
Awarded the RTP2 Award for Best Feature Film, the Swiss documentary Madame, directed by Stéphane Riethauser, is a family-based private archival saga that proposes an intimate journey where a lush 90-year-old grandmother and her grandson explore the development and heritage of gender identity within a patriarchal environment. In addition to the Jury Prize, Madame was also the winner of the Queer Porto 5 Audience Award.
The screening of the documentary is preceded by the Portuguese short film Em Caso de Fogo, by Tomás Paula Marques, winner of the Queer Porto 5 "In My Shorts" Award, a competition dedicated to Portuguese school short films. This fiction, set in an inland landscape, tells the story of Chico, a boy who lives haunted by a hate crime committed against a young man who was secretly close to him.
The members of the Jury of the Queer Porto 5 Official Competition were Adriano Baía Nazareth, RTP producer, singer and songwriter Ana Deus, plastic artist Nuno Ramalho, and artist and curator Susana Chiocca.
Queer Porto 6 will take place from 13 to 17 October 2020 at Teatro Rivoli, Rectory of the University of Porto and Maus Hábitos.
