Annie Laurie Medonis
Documentary : 82’ / Activism, Community, Herstory, Lesbian, Women

Selma Miriam and Noel Furie are two indomitable and pioneering women who founded Bloodroot, a feminist, lesbian, vegan restaurant and bookstore in Bridgeport, Connecticut. In the '70s and '80s, there were more than 230 feminist restaurants, cafes, and coffeehouses throughout the United States and Canada. Bloodroot is the oldest and longest-lasting of them, in continuous operation for almost 50 years. This documentary examines Bloodroot’s history, its place in American feminist thought, its impact on the local community, and why Bloodroot is more than just a restaurant.
