Being Blue
Luke Fowler
Documentary : 17' / Art & Artists, Landscape

In 2023, Luke Fowler embarked on a residency at Prospect Cottage, the former home of artist, filmmaker and activist Derek Jarman (1942-1994). Fowler sought to consider the landscape and weather of Dungeness as well as Jarman’s life by looking at the house he and his partner Keith Collins (1966-2018) left behind. The film touches on themes of sexuality, queer British life, art making and nature, and features newly discovered recordings of Jarman.

Luke Fowler (Glasgow, 1978) is an artist, filmmaker and musician based in Glasgow. His work explores the limits and conventions of biographical and documentary filmmaking, and has often been compared to the British Free Cinema of the 1950s. Working with archival footage, photography and sound, Fowler’s filmic montages create portraits of intriguing, counter cultural figures.
