Eviction
Mathilde Capone
Documentary : 72' / Gentrification, Community, Queer

In Montreal’s Centre-Sud, Parthenais Street is about to face changes. One of its buildings is being evicted in order to receive new tenants. The community that gravitates around it – initially of a more anarchist liking, but gradually mainly queer – opens its doors, assumes an already nostalgic tone, searches for alternatives, builds a bridge between the personal and the political: because at the same time that Canada develops a national plan to promote housing, capitalism acts rapid and anonymously, and changes the face of our cities, evicting tenants and non-governmental organizations. Through a series of interviews to former and present tenants, and using fragments of their daily lives, Mathilde Capone wrote, produced and directed this documentary that invites us to reflect upon how you build and unbuild a house, in the world context of new forced exodus and of a new suburbanization.
