Walt is a lonely convenience store clerk who has fallen in love with a Mexican migrant worker named Johnny. Though Walt has little in common with the ambivalent object of his affections, his desire to possess Johnny prompts a sexual awakening that results in taboo trysts and a tangled love triangle.

Gus Van Sant (Louisville, Kentucky, USA, 1952) is a film director, screenwriter, painter, photographer, musician and author. Influenced by painting and experimental cinema, he started shooting in 1981 and worked in an advertising agency until producing his first feature film, Mala Noche, in 1985. With recurring themes such as homosexuality and subcultures, his work is considered essential for North American independent cinema of the last quarter of the century.
