 “There’s always been a woman that’s an object of my desire,” opens Aarin Burch’s autobiographical short. Spinning through a stream of consciousness voiceover, Burch reflects on her creative process, romantic desires, fears, and sexuality. With “Spin Cycle,” Burch’s mirror to herself opens up a new cinematic language for Black queerness to the world. We will be presenting the newly restored copy in 4K.

For more than three decades, Aarin Burch has woven together film, dance, martial arts, and empowerment-based teaching into practices of expression, connection, and resilience. Known for a nonlinear cinematic style that is both physical and intuitive, her work blends image, sound, and movement to surface emotional truths and embodied ways of seeing. Her films, which include experimental shorts, documentaries, and hybrid works, explore questions of identity, lineage, and belonging.
