Philippe Besson in conversation at Queer Lisboa 27

In 2022, the Portugal-France Season sought to deepen the cooperation between the two countries in the diverse cultural arenas. Alongside the Nice Queer Film Festival, Queer Lisboa presented the project "EcoQueerÉcho" during the spring 2022 in several venues in Nice.

Aiming to give continuity to this dynamic, the Embassy of France in Portugal and the Institut Franco-Portugais announced today the complete program of MaisFRANÇA, a new cultural cooperation project that aims to highlight French artistic creation in Portugal throughout 2023.

Queer Lisboa is once again part of this partnership, organizing a film screening in the Panorama section of the 27th edition of the Festival, which will take place from September 22nd to the 30th at Cinema São Jorge and Cinemateca Portuguesa.

The film “Arrête avec tes mensonges”, by director Olivier Peyon (France, 2022, 98’) will be screened on September 25 at 10pm. Based on the homonymous autobiographical novel by Philippe Besson, the film tells the story of a novelist who, upon returning to the city where he grew up, meets the son of his first childhood love. Besson had already seen one of his novels adapted to the big screen in 2003 by Patrice Chéreau, “Son frère”, which was also screened at Queer Lisboa.

Besson will be present at the Festival for a conversation around the novel and its adaptation for the big screen, accompanied by film critic and president of the Queer Palm of the Cannes Film Festival, Franck Finance-Madureira. The conversation happens on the 25th September, at 6.30pm at Cinema São Jorge.

This screening and conversation mark the first confirmations of the new edition of the festival, which will start releasing further news about its program during the next month of July.
