Portuguese short films at Prishtina Queer Festival

Organized by the queer activism collective Dylberizm, Prishtina Queer Festival is one of the most relevant events celebrating queer culture today in Kosovo. It aims to challenge stereotypes and stigma surrounding sexual and gender identity in the Balkan country, and this year it returns, from the 6th to the 8th of September, with a program that includes film screenings, concerts and book launchs. The second edition of the Kosovar festival also promises to have a distinct Portuguese accent: in its commitment to the internationalization of Portuguese cinema, our Festivals join forces with the event for an exchange of programming and guests between Kosovo and Portugal.

On September 8th, the Prishtina Queer Festival will host a special screening of Portuguese short films curated by the Queer Lisboa & Queer Porto programming team. The short films "Entre a Luz e o Nada", by Joana de Sousa, "As Minhas Sensações São Tudo o que Tenho para Oferecer", by Isadora Neves Marques, "À Tona d'Água", by Alexander David, and " Seu Nome Era Gisberta", by Sérgio Galvão Roxo, will be the films programmed, followed after the screening by a talk with the artistic director of our festivals, João Ferreira, and filmmaker Alexander David.

Two weeks later, Dan Sokoli, co-founder of the Prishtina Queer Festival and human rights activist, will visit Queer Lisboa 28 on behalf of the Prishtina's event. Representing Kosovo cinema, Sokoli will participate in a debate within the scope of the Queer Focus that we dedicate this year to "Queer Resistance", a conversation that will also feature Bohdan Zhuk, from the Sunny Bunny Queer Festival in Ukraine, to, through the geographical and curatorial perspectives of the two guests, debate modes of production, organization and artistic expression in certain political contexts.
