Agora Somos Nós

Debate between Joana Mortágua and Hilda de Paulo, moderated by Maíra Freitas

This month of September, three very significant books will be released in Portugal: “Quem tem Medo do Género?”, by Judith Butler, published by Orfeu Negro; “Reflexões sobre a Liberdade: Identidades e Famílias”, organized by Joana Mortágua, Maria Castello Branco and Susana Peralta, published by Oficina do Livro/LeYa; and “VOLTA PRA TUA TERRA: Não há Abril sem Imigrantes”, organized by Manuella Bezerra de Melo and Wladimir Vaz, and published by Editora Urutau. Although not being specifically about these books, this debate will focus on the many issues they portray, such as rights, representativity and public policies for the LBGTQIAPN+ community, gender identity, self-determination for our bodies, the construction of a trans-feminist theoretical thought in Portugal, so as inclusion and belonging, hence promoting crucial contributions as an answer to the dreary book “Identidade e Família: Entre a Consistência da Tradição e as Exigências da Modernidade”, organized by Paulo Otero among others, released earlier this year.
