Joint presentation of queer books from Galicia:
- Nós, xs inadaptadxs. Representações, desejos e histórias LGBTIQ na Galiza, Daniel Amarelo (coord.)
- A defunción dos sexos. Disidentes sexuais na Galiza contemporánea, Daniela Ferrández
Speakers: Daniel Amarelo, Daniela Bento, Carlos Callón, António Fernando Cascais, Daniela Ferrández.
This joint book presentation gathers two publications from Galicia that question the recent past from a queer theory perspective. North of the Minho region, LGBTIQ cultural and essayistic production has increased in these past years, in this nation without a State that shares so much with Portugal in both socioeconomical and linguistic terms.
Daniel Amarelo, researcher, and editor, coordinated Nós, xs inadaptadxs. Representações, desejos e histórias LGBTIQ na Galiza (Através Publishers). The book seeks to deconstruct hetero patriarchy associated with Galician historic political cultural recounting, gathering different individuals, methodologies, disciplines, and themes on LGBTIQ issues. Thus, creating a common space for diverse bodies and subjectivities, a place to set records and debates.
Daniela Ferrández, PhD in History, Post-Doctorate researcher at CES-Coimbra, and trans activist, presents A defunción dos sexos. Disidentes sexuais na Galiza contemporânea (Xerais). The book compiles stories and memories of individuals who lived outside sexual norms in Galicia in the past 150 years. Lives, after all, necessary for a present day and collective reflection on the past, present, and future of sexual dissidences.
