Debate with Bohdan Zhuk (Sunny Bunny LGBTQIA+ Film Festival, Ucrânia) and Dan Sokoli (Prishtina Queer Festival, Kosovo), moderated by Daniel Pinheiro

This year’s Queer Focus section also serves as a critical platform to give visibility to narratives of resistance that not only celebrate resilience and creative resolve, but additionally aim to stimulate reflection and dialogue. Preceded by a short film screening that offers context to a more thorough reflection on freedom, the space is created where we can analyze the concept of “queer resistance”. Such is the case of this debate for which we invited two guests of two international queer film festivals that saw their first editions take place in 2023. Dan Sokoli (Prishtina Queer Festival, Kosovo) and Bohdan Zhuk (Sunny Bunny LGBTQIA+ Film Festival, Ukraine) activate these spaces of visibility in areas where it is much needed. Through their geographical and curatorial perspectives, we will seek to access a thought on means of production, organization and expression in a given political context, and investigate where lies the artistic craft, based on thinking a society that is fairer and more equal, namely through Queer Cinema.
