Filmed by numerous Avengers and edited by two of them, Janet Baus and Su Friedrich, "The Lesbian Avengers Eat Fire, Too" offers a rare and privileged insight into the first year of this pioneering New York group campaigning for the visibility and rights of lesbian women — from their first groundbreaking demonstration outside a primary school in 1992, to the incredible Dyke March in Washington DC, where the Avengers swallowed fire in front of the White House, cheered on by a huge crowd.

Su Friedrich moved to New York in 1976 to pursue her work in photography, both as a photojournalist and an art photographer. She is the writer, director, cinematographer, editor and sound editor of most of her films almost thirty films and videos, which have been featured in several retrospectives at museums and film festivals. Friedrich has won twenty-five fellowships, grants, and awards, and has taught at various schools, including The New School and NYU. From 1998 to 2023, she was a Professor of Visual Art in the Lewis Center for the Arts at Princeton University, where she taught Film and Video.

 

Janet Baus is an American documentary film and television director, producer, and editor. She has worked with filmmakers like John Scagliotti, Dan Hunt, and Reid Williams. She has won the Cine Golden Eagle, the Vito Russo Award, the Chicago International Television Award, and the Gold Aurora Award.
