Following the international premiere screening of the documentary A Political Consciousness, a talk will take place with Geoffroy de Lagasnerie and Léolo Victor-Pujebet, in which we will discuss topics such as repression, family, friendship, democracy, art, and sexual norms—among other central themes in Geoffroy de Lagasnerie’s thought—as well as cinema as a tool for disseminating knowledge and ideas.

One of the most prominent figures in contemporary radical leftist thought in France, Geoffroy de Lagasnerie is a philosopher and sociologist, and a professor at the École Nationale Supérieure d’Arts de Paris Cergy. His work primarily explores the intersections between politics, law, art, and critical theory. His books have been translated into ten languages, and he has published nearly fifteen books. His most recent works have addressed friendship as a means of life beyond marriage and family, penal abolitionism, and a critique of democracy. His books "My Body, This Desire, This Law" and "Escaping Our Political Impotence" are published in Portugal by BCF Editores.

Léolo Victor-Pujebet is a filmmaker, photographer, and visual artist. After studying film and philosophy at Paris Diderot University, he developed a practice in which documentary, fiction, photography, and installation exist on a shared continuum, focusing on the ways in which images survive and endure, on narratives of intimacy, and on the political fractures that cut across individual lives. In addition to his own work, he has collaborated with Christophe Honoré, Romane Bohringer, Fabienne Berthaud, and Bruce LaBruce. In 2015, he co-founded HORSCHAMP with Mathieu Morel, an association that has become one of France’s leading venues for the promotion and discussion of auteur cinema, photography, and contemporary art.

The talk will be moderated by António Guerreiro, a columnist for daily newspaper Público, editor of Electra magazine (published by the EDP Foundation), and visiting lecturer at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon.
